Now, for those who haven't read through or played this classic epic yet, all the spoilers follow beyond the jump mark. Yes, Peru is involved, and yes, some of these rules are optional or hint at legacy jokes, but it's all in good fun. Now follow me past the jump and see how many of Nyarlathotep's forms you can drink under the table (Spoilers, it's probably none of them. Don't get involved in drinking games with gods).
Take a Shot/Drink When:
- Someone pins Larkin or his lackies as a bad guy off the bat.
- Anyone pins the black guy as Jackson Elias.
- Take two shots if someone asks if Elias is gonna die.
- Down a whole glass if anyone asks, "Why is Jackson Elias black now?"
- Down the whole bottle and kick the player that starts making racist jokes about Elias at the table.
- Someone already knows what a khalharisi is.
- The Keeper correctly pronounces anything in Spanish (all players take a shot).
- If not and the players catch them, the Keeper takes a shot.
- Someone makes a juvenile joke about Lake Titicaca.
- Llamas are mentioned.
- Someone tries to get a khalharisi to liposuction anyone in the game.
- Someone wants to take some of the fat from the Father of Maggots.
- Someone kills a khalharisi.
- Keeper downs an entire glass if the Investigators take the ward off of the pyramid.
- Keeper and Players down an entire bottle each if the Father of Maggots is seen.
CHAPTER ONE: New York City
Take a Shot/Drink When:
- Jackson Elias is found dead: everyone shouts "I'm sorry, Mr. Jackson!" and takes the shot.
- Down a whole glass if someone asks about black guys dying first in horror.
- Someone gets hit with a pranga/panga.
- Someone tries to seduce Erica Carlyle.
- Anyone, including the Keeper, mispronounces the names of any of the Carlyle Expedition members.
- Optional: Dye a shot red and take it whenever someone mentions the Bloody Tongue Cult.
- A Hunting Horror appears.
- Racism and corruption in the police are a plot point.
- Fat Maybelle appears.
- Casual racism occurs.
- Two shots if the racism is blatant.
- Down a whole glass with the Chakota appears.
- At Ju-Ju House, take a Shot/Drink when:
- Someone knocks Silas N'Kwane out.
- The cult is disbanded.
- The Chakota is killed.
- Mukunga dies.
CHAPTER TWO: London
Take a Shot/Drink When:
- Someone makes a Mary Poppins, Sweeney Todd, or Charles Dickens reference.
- Pulp trope levels of thick fog creep in.
- Down your drink if the Thing in the Fog shows up.
- The Keeper does a poor British accent.
- Sip drink/shot like a proper British gent drinking tea whenever Gavigan shows up.
- They get Gavigan on their side.
- They get Tewfik/Zaria on their side.
- They turn them both against each other.
- The Investigators discover hidden caches of Mythos stuff.
- Another cult gets name-dropped, and it isn't the Bloody Tongue Cult.
- A werewolf appears.
- You think it's a werewolf, but it's actually just a ghoul.
- The ghoul is part of a werewolf-like curse anyway.
- A Serpent Man appears.
- Fire Vampires appear.
- The Investigators trust the wrong person or mistrust a potential ally (Keeper only).
- Say "Skol!" and drink whenever the Ivory Wind is in port.
- Someone thinks the Blue Pyramid Club is shadier than it actually is.
- The above results in a raid, break-in, or other illegal snooping.
- The above leads to a fight with bouncers in the club.
- Someone asks about trolls under the bridge to Misr House.
- Investigators disguising themselves as cultists.
- A Hunting Horror, Shantak, or the Million Favored Ones appear.
- Everyone downs the whole bottle together whenever the Investigators completely steamroll the events at Misr House.
- Gavigan dies.
- Tewfik/Zaria dies.
- The cult is disbanded.
CHAPTER THREE: Cairo
Take a Shot/Drink When:
- The Investigators find Warren Beisart or Faraz Najjar and speak to them.
- Either one of them die as a result of this.
- Brotherhood of the Black Pharaoh ambushes them or otherwise attacks them directly.
- A chase occurs in the streets of Cairo for any reason.
- Bastet is mentioned.
- Someone fights a big cat that is not native to Egypt.
- Nephren-Ka or Nitocris are name-dropped.
- Nyarlathotep's name is mentioned.
- Someone reads the Necronomicon.
- One of Nitocris' items are destroyed or dealt with.
- Two shots if two of them are destroyed/dealt with.
- A whole glass if all of them are destroyed/dealt with.
- The Investigators mistrust someone they should or trust someone they shouldn't.
- A Hunting Horror, Sand Dweller, or Child of the Sphinx appears.
- Someone realizes Omar al-Shakti is not a good guy.
- He dies by the end of the chapter.
- The cult is disbanded by the end of the chapter.
- The Mosque of Ibn Tulun is attacked.
- ... And the Brotherhood makes off with the Girdle.
- Drink a whole glass if Nitocris is resurrected.
- Drink another whole glass if the Black Sphinx appears.
- The Investigators get the piece of the Eye of Light and Darkness.
- Someone makes terrible puns about being "In de-Nile" or the Red Pyramid.
- Inside the Sanctum, take a shot/drink when:
- Someone sits in the throne.
- Someone lights all the gemstones.
- Someone pisses the Black Pharaoh off enough to attack.
- Say, "And it was then that Nyarlathotep came out of Egypt" and drink a whole glass when the Black Pharaoh himself appears.
Take a Shot/Drink When:
- Someone mistrusts Ahja Singh.
- Someone realizes Tandoor/Taan are tailing them.
- They find the secret basement under the tea shop.
- They rig it so that Tandoor/Taan is hoisted by their own petard.
- Fire Vampires, Hunting Horrors, Shantak, Dark Young, or another minor Mythos entity appear.
- Cultist ambush.
- Casual and everyday racism occurs.
- African wildlife is encountered.
- The Investigators go on a Safari and stay in a night platform, and...
- They meet small ghouls.
- They meet revenants.
- They expect one of the above, but get the other.
- They expect one of the above, but get something else of the Keeper's own devising.
- Do a flaming shot when the train from Mombasa to Nairobi catches fire.
- Johnstone Kenyatta is met.
- Old Bundari gives the Investigators the gifts.
- Someone catches a tropical illness.
- Ndovu Village turns out to be a cult hideout.
- M'Weru is in the village and the Investigators realize it.
- A Chakota appears.
- At the Mountain of the Black Wind, take a Shot/Drink when:
- They meet Hypatia.
- Who-is-Not-What-She-Seems turns into a huge monster and eats people.
- Take two shots when the Spawn is born.
- Down the drink and do your best tongue trick when the Bloody Tongue God appears.
- The cult is somehow disbanded.
- M'Weru dies.
- Down two more shots when the Spawn dies, saying "Smile, you son of a..." before taking them both.
CHAPTER FIVE: Australia
Take a Shot/Drink When:
- Someone makes a shitty joke about dingoes eating babies, shrimp on barbies, or Crocodile Dundee/Steve Irwin.
- The Keeper does a terrible Australian accent.
- The Investigators enter a pub.
- Sand-Bat is mentioned.
- Yithians are mentioned.
- Swap drinks with the Keeper and down each other's glasses when your character brain-swaps with a Yithian.
- Hunting Horrors, the Guardians of the Temple, Yithians, Flying Polyps, or other Mythos beasts are encountered.
- Casual racism towards Aboriginal peoples.
- A reference to The Shadow Out of Time is picked up on by anyone at any point.
- Mortimer Wycroft is a creepy bastard.
- Buckley's Ghost is encountered.
- Mimi are encountered.
- The previously Yithian-possessed Investigator has a flashback to being in the City of the Great Race.
- Someone mentions Drop-Bears.
- They're Australian and convince another person to smear marmite on them and wear a colander on their head.
- The ambush happens.
- Someone shoots a lightning gun.
- It's Kakakatak.
- It's an Investigator.
- It's at a Flying Polyp.
- Huston is encountered.
- He is killed.
- The cult is disbanded.
- Turn off the lights and down your entire drink when Sand-Bat/the Haunter of the Dark appears.
CHAPTER SIX: Shanghai
Take a Shot/Drink When:
- Someone makes a joke involving a racist Chinese stereotype.
- They enter the Stumbling Tiger bar.
- They leave the Stumbling Tiger bar.
- Someone tells Ho Fang something they shouldn't or trusts him more than they should (Keeper only).
- Cultist ambush.
- Gardens of corpses appear.
- They entered them as kidnapping victims.
- There's some sort of festival going on.
- A demon cat appears.
- They defeat the demon cat.
- Someone makes a lame fat joke about the Bloated Woman's size.
- Investigators get kidnapped.
- Li/Lin Yenyu does something bad to the Investigators.
- Two more shots if it involves the gorillas.
- Someone ends up dead in the Whangpoo River.
- There's a Black Fan somewhere.
- It doesn't involve the Bloated Woman or the Order of the same in any way, shape, or form.
- Say "Glub Glub" and down the whole drink whenever Deep Ones or Deep One Hybrids appear.
- They meet Jack Brady.
- They meet/save Choi.
- They obtain the Eye of Light and Darkness spell.
- Martial Arts is involved in some battle, somewhere.
- They steal the Dark Mistress or Luxuriant Goddess and sail it to Grey Dragon Island.
- Without the cult being aware of it.
- They are attacked by Deep Ones mid-route.
- They try to fool the cult into thinking they're Penhew and Ho Fang with the boat.
- It doesn't work.
- It somehow does work.
- The Investigators enter a volcano lair.
- Sip drink when the Bloated Woman first appears and the fan is up. Scream "BUTTER FACE!" and down the rest of the drink when she drops the fan.
- Someone somehow has sex with the Bloated Woman.
- They blow up the volcano lair.
- Penhew dies.
- Ho Fang dies.
- The cult is disbanded.
Drink Anytime:
- The Keeper uses Nyarlathotep as the basis of a dream sequence.
- The Keeper puts their own material in the campaign.
- You manage to out-think the Keeper to the point they're confused.
- You roll a 1%.
- Someone quotes an Indiana Jones film.
- Toast whenever a PC dies or goes permanently insane.
- The Keeper somehow uses their own body or physical appearance as a prop.
- You successfully finish a chapter.
- You successfully Eye of Light and Darkness a ritual location.
- Someone calls the Eye of Light and Darkness the "Super Elder Sign".
- Investigators dress up as cultists to sneak into the cult lair.
- Down the whole bottle if someone actually manages to kill one of Nyarlathotep's forms.
- Down a whole glass if someone strikes a deal with Nyarlathotep.
- Down a whole glass if you blow a ritual site up.
- Someone jokes about the Bloody Tongue and period sex.
- You've played or run MoN before and something completely new to the re-release happens in it.
Stop Drinking When:
- You actually begin to see Hunting Horrors.
- You start a sentence with, "If I were Nyarlathotep..."
- Debates about which cult is better or which Mask would win in a fight ensue.
- You start seriously discussing which Mask is the most fuckable.
- You think getting one of the cult sigils tattooed onto your body is a good idea.
- You are no longer able to properly roll dice.
- You are no longer able to pronounce "Nyarlathotep".
